Walk On Water With 7 Magic Stones

Jesus is known for being able to walk on water. Apparently Buddhist monks too. Read this story contributed by a Byrd Chong to a few Buddhist sites…

Three monks decided to practise meditation together. they sat by the side of a lake and closed their eyes in concentration. Then suddenly, the first one stood up and said, “I forgot my mat.” He steeped miraculously onto the water in front of him and walked across the lake to their hut on the other side.

When he returned, the second monk stood up and said, “I forgot to put my the other underwear to dry.” He too walked calmly across the water and returned the same way.

The third monk watched the first two carefully in what he decided must be the test of his own abilities. “Is your learning so superior to mine? I too can match any feat you two can perform,” he declared loudly and rushed to the water’s edge to walk across it.

He promptly fell into the deep water.

Undeterred, the yogi climbed out of the water and tried again, only to sink into the water. Yet again he climbed out and yet again he tried, each time sinking into the water. This went on for some time as the other two monks watched.

After a while, the second monk turned to the first and said, “Do you think we should tell him where the stones are?”

What Is Walking on Water

The term “walk on water” or “walking on water”, undoubtedly, refers to a miraculous act. Because we naturally sink in water, the term is now taken to mean achieving the impossible. What is being achieved defies logic and beyond Science or rational thought. When you are able to walk on water, you may well be conferred a “hero” status.

The most famous of all, Jesus was said to walk over a lake to meet his disciples. Walking on water is also described in a number of folklore. There are a number of Egyptian stories based on this miracle. Chinese wuxia films often depict martial arts fighters carry out their duels while grazing on the water. A movie that comes to mind is Zhang Yi Mou’s Hero movie. If you have not watched this show, do catch it on DVD. It is the stuff of legends when men could fly through the air ,walk on water, slice and dice their opponent into a thousand slivers.

Let’s Create A Miracle

So how about having some fun today? While it may not be walking on water for us, perhaps we have a dream that we think it impossible. Let us indulge in a creative process and imagine that it is within reach. That we can be superhuman. That we can be great. Or that we can bring forth an idea into fruition that shuts our worst critics up.

Then, if we should decide to go for it and as we stand before the water’s edge, let 7 stones magically appear, paving the way to “walking on water” just like how the two Buddhist monks did it. Before you lay foot on each stone, imagine each stone starting to speak and sharing its secret to a smooth journey in creating miracles:

Stone Pebble #1: Walk With Open Arms

Nothing is going to happen if we do not open ourselves to vast possibilities. We would not have landed on the moon, say, if we did not allow ourselves to dream it in the first place.

“You see things; and you say, ‘Why?’ But I dream things that never were; and I say, ‘Why not?’”
— George Bernard Shaw (Irish literary Critic, Playwright and Essayist. 1925 Nobel Prize for Literature, 1856-1950)

Dreams can be big or small. And if you reflect on it, there is nothing to stop you from making it really HUGE. So go ahead and stretch your imagination. Use your creativity to think up what will be grand vision. Dream beyond borders.

Stone Pebble #2: Walk with Unwavering Faith

“Dreams are like the paints of a great artist. Your dreams are your paints, the world is your canvas. Believing, is the brush that converts your dreams into a masterpiece of reality.”

There must be every bit of trust that your prayers will be answered. Do not get fixated about how you are going to achieve the impossible. Be open to options as they come to you. Be flexible in your approach. The end is the attainment of your dream.

So walk with unwavering faith. Never give in to doubt, as it cast shadows on your journey and prevents you from moving forward. Walk with every faith and confidence that your dreams can happen!

Stone Pebble #3: Walking Starts With A Single Purposeful Step

You cannot achieve the impossible if you do not start to take action. You must be willing to take risks, to go beyond your comfort zone, to explore what you previously thought not possible.

You can decide not to have dreams and stay where you are. Or you can be a dreamer and stay a dreamer. Or better yet, you can be a dreamer and take action. The successful usually belongs in the latter group.

In fact, I would propose that you create a vision. A vision is a dream powered with purpose. Make this vision one that is in alignment with your Highest Purpose. (Refer to Stone Pebble #7 for more clues on how to know what this is).

Stone Pebble #4: Walk With Courage

Whatever you do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius and power and magic in it.”
— Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (German Playwright, Poet, Novelist and Dramatist. 1749-1832)

Admittedly, walking on water will require a great deal of courage. You test boundaries. You step into a space that is really risky.

While action can bring about success, there is also the possibility of failure. Your fears may even act up, even before you begin your first step. Your mind starts to limit you in going forth, with largely untrue stories. You imagine that you are going to sink and the fear of death becomes real.

Hence, choose to keep your dream in focus and walk courageously. Do not give up even when times are difficult or challenging. Nothing holds you back. Each time you fall or appear to sink, you pick yourself up again!

Stone Pebble #5: Walk With Awareness

Take each step with every awareness. There is no past or tomorrow. Give fully to each step. Take in the scenery as you walk. Every step becomes a joyful one.

Walking with awareness makes you fully aware of any danger that comes by. Perhaps it is a crocodile cruising by. Or a shark lurking from underneath. You do not miss the warning signals. In a world of cluttered thoughts or a busy lifestyle, we often miss out on alarm bells. A breakdown in health is often one consequence when we do not pay close attention to the limitations of our physical body.

On the plus side, when you walk with awareness, you are able to seize every opportunity that comes along. Your antenna is up. The opportunity comes and you spring into inspired action. How often have you sighed about missed chances, because you are one or a few steps too late? Try walking with awareness.

Stone Pebble #6: Gain Speed With The Flow

As you gain more confidence, you may find yourself springing into a run. Well, why not? When you call upon the resources of the Universe, they may just come all at once. You go with the flow. You go with the momentum. You reach your destination faster.

Imagine as if you are on a thread mill, you first begin to walk. But when the momentum of the belt below your feet picks up, you find that you naturally start to jog and then run.

However, if there is no flow, do not begin to run. Not just yet. The flow of water cannot be hurried. So fretting about what is next does not help either.

You are in this for the long haul, so pace yourself. You do not want to channel energy unproductively. Just imagine yourself back at the thread mill again and running when the conveyor belt is slow. There is no need for all that extra push. Only pick up speed when it is necessary to.

Stone Pebble #7: Get Spiritual Intervention

This is my most favorite of all! It always helps if you are guided spiritually. There are unforeseen forces out there and it will be a sheer waste if you do not choose to utilise the resources that are meant to help you in your journey on this Earth.

What has been an interesting revelation for me, over the past few weeks, is that my Spirit Guide/God/Higher Self, when called upon, will walk every step with me. If I am drowning, I would want them to come to my shout for aid. To walk on water sounds like a superhuman feat; so why not ask for divine intervention to help create a miraculous act?

I would like to think that if your request for a miracle is in alignment with your Soul Purpose, you will get the help you need. Your Spirit Guide/God/Higher Being will assist if it is in your best interest to so. So it is important to discover what your divine purpose is. Usually, it involves looking inward. Using the gifts that you have been blessed with since birth, you are more likely to meet with great success.

Summary

Magic happens when you believe and act. You can make lots of things happen, only if you choose to believe. Any limitations of the mind are best removed. Invite spiritual guides or God to bless your journey. Remember what each of the 7 stone has to say.

You are always in the act of creation. The creation of thought that leads to the seeding of an idea. The idea blossoms, in response to every bit of persistence, faith and courage you have to grow it.

Can anyone really “Walking on Water”?

As I reviewed what I wrote for today’s post, I began to wonder if the Power of Intention can really enable anyone from this century, to walk on water (minus the metaphors). Well…I was pleasantly surprised….I found something…watch this video which has already garnered 18 million visitors since it first got published….

What do you think? Real, Magic or Miracle?

Evelyn – I think this is a fantastic article! You said, “Nothing is going to happen if we do not open ourselves to vast possibilities.” This is absolutely true! The world is full of possibilities. We just have to open ourselves up and take a chance to experience all that life has to offer.

I agree with Jeff – this is highly inspiring. It’s very true that unless we believe, we can’t achieve anything, let alone the impossible, or what we perceive to be impossible.

@Jeff and Vered, thanks for your feedback. Yes…let us not limit ourselves in our dreams!

Excellent article and I agree 100% with what you have to say. To be anything or achieve anything we have to do something. Often anything is better than ineria.

The video? Yeh that’s a hoax or maybe not and I’m just an old cynic deep down and can’t see the potential of the human mind ;-)

This is all just so true. I have summarised it on my blog and directed people to the full, unexpurgated version here. Thanks for encapsulating what we all know to be true but fail frequently to focus on. Launching and/or growing a business is not just feasiblity studies, biz plans, road maps and marketing strategies it’s also mindset – in fact one could perhaps argue that mindset is more important than all the others.

Echoing the comments already here – Evelyn, this is a fantastic article! I find it uplifting and inspiring. And that really helps when we’re out there on that water. Knowing where these stone are (or, actually how to use these stones) is such an important key to making our dreams become a reality. If we miss a stone, then it becomes more likely we’ll fall into the water and sink (or, not achieve our dreams). Actually, I think sometimes we all fall, but the key is to get back up and find those stones out there that we missed. And, then, we’ll achieve the dreams we’ve desired!

Hi Evelyn. I enjoyed the joke about the 3 monks; made me laugh. I agree with everyone that this is an inspiring post. And, although I believe anything is possible, I still have trouble believing you can walk on water. I watched the video twice and just can’t believe it! It has to be magic!

Evelyn, this post was fantastic. I especially appreciated no. 7, as that is rarely mentioned in any motivational article.

You’ve inspired me to take your stone pebbles and do something real with them! :-)

Confidence goes hand in hand with trusting God or having faith. Mark 11: 23-24 puts it very well:

“Truly I tell you, whoever says to this mountain, Be lifted up and thrown into the sea! and does not doubt at all in his heart but believes that what he says will take place, it will be done for him. For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it].” Amplified Version.

Many blessings to all,

@Tim, you are a cynic alright LOL!

@Lance, thanks for supporting the idea of the magic stones. How about telling this story to your kids at bedtime??

@Davina, glad you laughed….it’s meant to do its job!! I can’t see how anyone can really walk on water too…hmmm….I vaguely remember another true-life story….gotta go check it up!

The human mind is powerful beyond our comprehension, I do believe that. However, the video, I’m not too sure. It looks real, but then what if there was a clear perspex plank just below the surface and the guy walked across it?

I’d love to believe it is true but then I’m also not that naive. Unless I see this with my own eyes there will always be what ifs.

Evelyn, what a wonderfully uplifting post. Over the years I have always found new revelations in the story of Jesus walking on water. Walking on water requires us to keep our eyes focused on God and not on the people or things that tell us we are doing the impossible. Are miracles still possible? You bet! And they happen everyday!

Hi Evelyn!

What an inspiring article, thank you for sharing! The video was entertaining; although obviously a very excellent rendition of special effects and false testimony! If you’ve ever read the book Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, you’ll know what I mean. Listen to the voice within!

Hi Evelyn,

This has deep thoughts and is beautifully written. I liked the joke, too.

I know it’s a magic trick — b/c I’m married to a magician! Yes, really! (Not the one in the video however. LOL)

Evelyn August 8, 2008 at 8:33 am

@Irene, I thought you’d like the same tip too *wink*! Take care!

@Linda, now you say….I’ve been trying to figure out for a long time…you’ve got to share how to tell that it is a magic trick! Thanks for your feedback!

Very inspiring. I loved the story. It’s one of those stories which stick with you and you share with others.

What stands out for me in this article is that miracles are possible but we have to believe in them first. Open yourself to possibilities, have faith, take action etc each speaks of first believing in it yourself.

This was excellent Evelyn. I had never heard the story of the three monks before and I love how you explain what each stone represents. About the video, I think it’s a hoax, but it was still fun to watch.

Evelyn August 8, 2008 at 10:29 pm

@Avani, I’m glad that you like the story. Yes, miracles cannot happen if we do not even believe in them in the first place.

@Marelisa, glad that you enjoyed this article!

Hi Evelyn – this was a great article, and a great story about the monks! Indeed, what may seem like a miracle is merely applying the fundamental rules of achieving progress.

Hi,

Great Post.
If you have a purpose, which has a value, you will get divine help to attain it.
Spritual intervention is the one which helps you to do miracles.
As Nightingale said “Believe and Succeed”.
Similar miracles like ‘walking in water’ are done by yogis in india just like that. They have achieved certain power through constant meditation, yoga, penance.
Belief, focus, persistance, faith in higher power are the real keys to be part of miracles.
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful article.

Best Wishes,

Evelyn,

I love this article with the 7 stones metaphor. I very much agree that the seeming impossible is possible. It all starts with opening our arms wide.

Thanks.

@Sarah, I’m not sure how your comment did not show up for me earlier on. I’m glad that you like pt 7!

@Arturo, thanks for sharing such a lovely and motivational quote from the Bible.

@Al, don’t forget the divine intervention part though *wink*

@Kannan, interesting that you brought up about the yogis in India. I vaguely hear that it is possible too with all those who are very well practiced meditators.

@Flora, thanks for your lovely feedback!

Have a great weekend,

Hi Evelyn,

Your seven magic “stones” are a great way to live a fulfilling life. Without faith, open arms, and courage,(plus all of the other items you mentioned), our lives could be quite dismal. It’s not just about US.
