How to Win the Lottery or the $10 million Hongbao Draw?

by Evelyn on February 23, 2010

Can there be more to “how to win the lottery” than simply a game of chance? Is luck the only factor in winning a lottery? Or can there be any truth to the often quoted saying by Roman Philosopher Seneca that “luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity”?

how to win the lottery

So, what if there are some things that you can do to increase your luck? Well, I decided to do some research on what else we can do win the lottery. In case you are not already aware, Singapore is gripped with lottery fever at this time of the year. The prize is a jackpot of S$10 million (or US$7.1 million). The draw date? This Friday – February 26, 2010 – at 9pm. Long queues are reportedly seen at every ticketing booth this week.

The Toto S$10 Milllion (US$7.1 Million) Hongbao Draw

The Toto Hongbao Draw is a festive event that many Singaporeans look forward to every Lunar New Year. Since its inception in year 2000, the Toto Hongbao Draw has created more than 44 millionaires.

Toto is another form of lottery, just like The Sweep or Scratchit or 4D. The popular draw uses the word “hongbao” to great effect. Hongbao or ang pow refers to a red packet containing money. It is a Chinese New Year custom for children or singles to receive a red packet for good luck. With a highly attractive S$10 million jackpot, many of us are lured into buying a ticket.

How to Win the Lottery or the Toto S$10 Million Hongbao Draw?

A ton of information on how best to win the lottery came up during my investigation. The following is a compilation of some of the answers….

1. Win the Lottery by Increasing Your Statistical Chance

Okay….it can be a challenge should you start to think about the statistical odds of winning. But my all inspiring message for you today is that “if you already think you are beaten, you will be”. So let us play to win in the game of life. Tip #1 is about taking some obvious actions with increasing your chance. This means taking time to pick the right numbers, sharing in a group and knowing the stats from previous winning numbers. The points are taken from this top video….

2. “How to Attract Wealth” Visualization

Tip #2 is a summary of tips about the use of creative visualization. You need to invoke the power of your imagination and indulge in your dreams. Whatever you can conceive in your mind, you can find it turning true.

I recommend using a framework for your visualization. One great one is with the principle of Be-Do-Have. What do you see yourself as being, having or doing with a lot of money? Visualize the life you would like to experience and associate yourself with the mental picture (“associate” is an NLP term to mean seeing yourself in the image conjured) with your feelings.

Do not worry about the how. Let the Universe take over. Also let go of all attachments and negative thinking. Never buy a lottery ticket when you have feelings of doubt, guilt or worry! Instead hold the ticket with joy, expectancy, belief and faith.

3. Win the Lottery by Aligning with Abundance

Let the lottery win be an indication of your alignment with Source! No one can teach us better about the power of attraction than Abraham Hicks. I highly recommend the following two videos that specifically shared about how to win the lottery….

The core message is about shifting the vibrational state of being. You need to become a vibrational match to your desires. Your desires need to be strong for them to be lined up for you. However, avoid resonating in lack. Instead, be open to different ways of attracting money. Winning the lottery is just one of the infinite ways that the Universe yields abundance to you.

Amplifying the well being that you already are will help you in making the shift. Hence, find the thought that makes you feel abundant even before the abundance comes. You need to be able to think of money as easily available as the air you breathe. You need to feel as if you are “over there” even while you are “over here” (go back to tip #2).

4. Win the Lottery by Hypnosis

Pick winning numbers with hypnosis. Get hypnotic suggestions embedded in your subconscious with this video….

More hypnosis downloads are available here.

5. Win the Lottery by Subliminal Messenging

Use this video with embedded subliminal messenging….

Don’t know what is subliminal messenging? Subliminal messages are positive affirmations sent directly to the subconscious, bypassing the more critical conscious mind. The subconscious then follows these commands to produce powerful changes. Get Subliminal Power which works by flashing positive affirmations unobtrusively around your computer screen while you work. Subliminal Power works only on the PC, though!

6. Win the Lottery by Creating a Wealth Vision Board

Triple your magnetic power with creating a vision board! A fengshui wealth vision board may just do the trick! My previous post also inspired Baker (see the photo that he sent me below) to create one. Thumbs up to taking action!!

7. Win the Lottery by Eliminating Money Beliefs

You will need to bust your money myths if you haven’t already worked on them. Having negative money beliefs can sabotage your best intents of winning the lottery. Here are some that you need to make sure that you do not have….

“I feel guilty if I should win the lottery.”
“The Universe wouldn’t give me something for nothing.”
“The only way to make money is through hard work. It is absurd to think I can make money through a lottery.”

Refer to my list of 101 negative money beliefs, if you have to! I conduct “Transform Your Money Beliefs with EFT” workshops. If you are interested to attend one, please write to me at abundancetapestry [at] gmail.com.

Well, I was so tickled by the comics (as seen in the first picture of this post) that my cousin drew for his site that I asked him for permission to reprint it before writing today’s post. More of his drawings can be found at another site here. He and his twin brother are animation artists working for a top US firm based in Singapore. Their works are now found in shows aired across the globe. Call it luck or belief? Their intent was so strong that they managed to find a job in the same company – a top notch firm – with excellent mentors!

Let’s Hear It From You

1. Do you buy lottery tickets? Have you ever won anything? If so, what is your secret?

2. Any thoughts on the topic of luck?

Abundance always,

Evelyn,

While there is certainly something to be said for luck, studies have shown that most people who come into lots of money by sheer luck (like winning the lottery) often lose their money nearly as fast as it came. They just don’t know what to do with it once they have it.

One the other hand, people who work hard, struggle, and sacrifice for what they have seem to retain their assets.

A wealthy man once told me that he was 250,000 dollars in debt. He was ready to throw in the towel and declare bankruptcy when somebody told him that what looks like overnight success to an outsider witness was in fact years of struggle, hardship, and sacrifice for the person who succeeded. At this point the wealthy man told me that there is no such thing as success without struggle.

Please forgive my pessimism, but I question the usefulness and longevity of easy success without first being preceded by difficult failures.

Hello Ben,

I am glad that you brought up a point which I have forgotten to highlight. Indeed it is true that research has shown that many who became instant millionaires lose it all very quickly. Leaving aside poor management or handling money skills, tip #3 illustrates some very important points.

Tip #3 is essentially about raising our prosperity consciousness. It refers to the vibrational state of our being. When we are aligned energetically, we will find ourselves a magnet for abundance. Money is one form of abundance.

Struggling and sacrifice suggests that there is not enough to go around. The resonance is lack and indicates poverty consciousness. It doesn’t mean that we don’t work hard or make obvious actions when the time is appropriate. But when we are aligned, work is simply an expression of who we are. No struggle is involved. We are simply in the flow.

A great book to read is Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill. It is about how thoughts become things. At the same time, he also shares about how winners do not quit but use creative ideas, visualization and affirmations to achieve wealth.

Indeed, you will also find that many of the tips in the post also require some work. The mind is a muscle that needs constant exercise if it has been programmed to think negatively for years. No major changes is likely to happen from a single session of visualization. In all probability, some regularity in using any or more of the tips provided is needed.

Evelyn

I have won several trips and various items from sweepstakes and in-store drawings. I set a goal of what it is I want and enter for that thing every chance I get. The only thing I have not won that I really want is the Lottery. Thank you for these amazing tips! I will be using them and I will keep you updated on my progress.

Hello Lisa,

How amazing! Your experience is pretty much similar to that of my girlfriend. You probably work very well with using the power of intention. This morning, I was just thinking about why I have never set intents for lucky draws, etc and then I realized that for a long time, the experience of winning one is not something that I have truly desired.

Well, if you have been hoping to win the lottery and have not, it may mean that you have to work through remaining issues for greater shifts, or that there are other ways that the Universe is yielding its riches to you. I would say continue to keep up with making alignment to the essence of who you are!

All the best,
Evelyn

You know, after watching the Hicks video I am beginning to doubt if I really want to win the lottery after all. Wouldnt it be more magical to see how abundance com comes in smaller waves? I do agree that I have things to work through. But that is what we are here for and I am finally beginning to embrace the “work” that will lead to alignment and peace. Right now my husband and I are “feeling” our way to Hawaii. It is an exciting time and I am looking forward to reading your future postings as I am sure they will lead to more insights for our journey.

Hi Evelyn .. I do our lottery occasionally – have a few £s back and am about equal. I can’t put my energies into believing the lottery will come my way – the odds are so unequal. When I win something that will be great – til then … I support good causes via the lottery .. and the ultimate winner – and hope they do good for people – not all do .. as mentioned.

I love the cartoons – talented guys .. your cousins …

Good luck to whoever wins on Friday! Go well and enjoy the hype .. Hilary

Evelyn, great post! Shifting our vibrations is really what is going to bring all abundance that we want to us. I’d say clearing limiting beliefs and visualizing are two best ways to do it. I keep wanting to check out your money limiting beliefs list, but haven’t done it yet. Headed to do it now. Thank you!

Hi Evelyn,

I really enjoyed this post. I first read it a couple of days ago while I was (synchronistically) writing a post about trying to get myself back into alignment with abundance. (I provided a link back here in my post) In particular I loved the Esther Hicks videos – thanks so much for sharing them : )

Hey Hilda,

What perfect timing! It’s great to know that you have been intending to shift into greater alignment as well! Personally, I won’t call it “trying to get back” because I believe that you are already abundant. By shifting into greater alignment, you are in greater connection with the essence of who you really are.

With love,
Evelyn

I was just talking about the idea of winning the lottery with someone today. I made a similar point to you, when you said that the lottery isn’t the only way to massive wealth… Yet that’s sort of how we’re trained by society. Wealth comes in many forms, and once we readjust what wealth “feels” like to us, as opposed to what our heads think it looks like, we can attract anything we want!

[Reply]

Evelyn Reply:

Hi Megan,

Glad that you share the same thought that wealth can be in a form that is other than cash. Mental well-being, for instance, is a form of wealth. When we are vibrationally positive, we can attract favorable outcomes – which of course includes material wealth.

What a wonderful post, I had seen the Hicks videos but the others were all new to me. I just love the cartoons- what a talented cousin you have.
yes I buy lottery tickets occassionally. Sometimes when there is a big draw when we walk on the beach we visualise what we would do with $ 4 million, etc. I know a large lottery win would be something I would share with the world, it would make a differnce to my lives and the lives of others.
Thanks for sharing this and I am now heading to read 101 negative money beliefs

“Do not worry about the how. Let the Universe take over.” Amen for that in all aspects of life!!!!

Vibrational changes, even now when I’m a bit ticked off over something I can work myself into a better mood pretty easily by surrendering the low vibrations for higher ones. These skills I owe to wonderful bloggers like YOU — I really do. Blogs like yours lave let so much light into my life than I ever thought possible.

Where was I all my life before blogging??! :)

Don’t buy lottery tickets, but if I ever get the urge I’ll be sure to do it on a day when I’m feeling especially full of joy!

What fun! California gets gripped with lotto fever occassionally too, although it’s not on a certain day each year…how neat that this is tied to the Lunar New Year. My husband buys lotto tickets occassionally, but we’re not too regular about it. I guess I have kind of a ‘karmic’ outlook on things like this – I tend to think if something this dramatic is meant to happen to you, it will, and if it’s not, it won’t. In other words, that it’s just too big to be too much in our control. It’s like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – some of the other contestants’ parents buy thousands of tickets. But Charlie just needs one, because it really is his destiny. So even though I do believe in our ability to manifest and shape our fate, in things like the lotto I have a more laissez faire approach…Hope you are well-

[Reply]

Evelyn Reply:

Hi Lisa,

I share the same thought too. If someone is meant to win the lottery, he or she does not really need to buy lots of them.

After writing this post, one of the things I realized was that not everyone might necessarily want the experience of coming into lots of money. It is not because these people have poverty consciousness but they kindof prefer life to unfold its miracles gradually and in good time. At the end of it all, it really depends on what type of life experiences we wish to have. Indeed, as conscious beings, we have the ability to manifest what thoughts we focus our attention on.

All the best to you,
Evelyn

I don’t personally buy lottery tickets, but I have finally persuaded myself to make a vision board, which for me is a big step. :) It has screaming arena-sized crowds and me wearing a headphone mic. Okay, it doesn’t, but it does have my book as a New York Times bestseller.

Hey Chris,

Oh good for you in overcoming whatever blocks you were having in making a vision board. Your description of it sounds great! You may find yourself manifesting your vision the more you focus your attention on the visual!

Hmmm….good point about being specific that you want your book to be a NY Times bestseller. I have the words “bestselling books” on my vision board but I didn’t quite specify what. I may just put in the word “Amazon” or something!

Wishing you every success,
Evelyn

Hello Evelyn,
Thank you for inspiring me to make this wealth vision board. This wealth vision board is placed in my “wealth area according to feng shui” in my apartment where I can see it every morning when I wake up and look at it. The creation of making the actual wealth vision board, and having it placed where I can see it daily, is an amazing process. Also thank you for including me on this post. I appreciate it. :)

Hi Evelyn,

I never bought a lottery ticket but my views of luck have evolved over the years. I used to believe in the concept of it for a long time. However, I no longer think that there is such a thing as luck. I agree with Seneca that luck is when preparation meets opportunity. We create our own luck. We are the creators of our reality.

I loved the clips you included with this post too.

Hope all is well!

I buy lottery tickets as gifts – maybe hang them on a plant or tuck one in a Christmas stocking.
I am very lucky for other people – I get a lot of scholarship money for students bound for college by writing good grants.
I just had my first win – I got a $500 grant for my blog….my luck is turning around especially as I work on healing my body and thinking…and doing Davina’s metaphor thinking game…I can tell my energy is changing

It seems to me that when a negative tail-ender pops up, it could an indication that the affirmation is too lofty. Using an affirmation that you know deep down is within your range might automatically keep the negative tail-enders away. They could be seen as a helpful cue rather than a depressing or worrisome one.
