Happy Friendship Day – Sunday August 3, 2008

by Evelyn on August 1, 2008

I know it is not time yet but I’ve committed to a ton of activities on Sunday, Aug 3. My plans for that day include starting off at 6am with a group meditation on a hill, followed by classes and a birthday outing that will last until evening time. Yet, I do not want my weekend to pass without making a post to wish all my friends a very “Happy Friendship Day”!

I’ve only gotten serious about this site sometime beginning this year; however, I’ve formed amazing online friendships since then. So I’m going to take the opportunity for some link love to a list of great bloggers, who have been very supportive of my work. Behind the scenes, some of us have corresponded via emails and chatlines, providing assistance and a listening ear. I cannot ask for a better network of friends. As I look through my email list, I realise that it will be impossible to name them all. So I’m just going to write 10 of my favorites (in no particular order) here…

- Lorraine Cohen from Powerfull Living
- Irene from Light Beckons
- Tina from Think Simple Now
- Jonathan Mead from Illuminated Mind
- Tim Brownson from A Daring Adventure
- Vered from MomGrind
- Hunter from Hunter Nuttall
- Shilpan from Success Soul
- Avani from Avani-Mehta

Then, there is also Andrea Heas from Empowered Soul (now my intuitive coach), Barbara Swafford from Blogging Without a Blog (who provides great blogging advice), Monk Mojo (who never fails to make me laugh with his comics), Tom Volkar from Delightful Work (who made a huge confession here), Alex Blackwell (who’s starting a new site), entrepreneur coach Akemi from Yes-to-me, Dr James D Swann (who gives me warm supportive comments), Brennan from Set Our Teachers Free ….and the list goes on!!

I’m not going to forget my offline friends or those whom I’ve not met in the last few months either. Not all of them may be on the web but they’ve been sweet in their various ways. Most of these friendships are made since school to banking days and more recently. The list: Jia Lin, Anne, Sook, Chih Ai, Stephanie, Siao Yian, May Ling, Karen, Jessie, Grace, Chris, Juliet, Mag, Sherrrilyn, Stanley, Kwang Yong, Daphne, Valerie, Esther, Jessica, Siew Fan, Beng See, Ai Nee, Siu, Will, Alvin, Gordon, Tiat, Vincent, Shafir, Barns and Bita.

Of course, a special mention – my husband – who’s first and foremost my dearest friend!

Lastly, remembering the often said phrase “There are no strangers here; only friends we have not met”, I would also like to dedicate this post to all my readers, whom this site cannot do without. If I’ve somehow failed to name you on this post, rest assured. My thoughts for warm friendship also extend to you!

So here is a song, which remains one of my favorites, to wish everyone Happy Friendship Day!

Evelyn I’m honored as well. I guess true confessions do build friendships. I was only so open on that comment because so many who commented before me seemed to be playing it so very safe. That’s not my style and besides I’m mostly law-abiding now. :)

Hi Evelyn,

What a lovely way to pay tribute to your friends. They are so important to us. I didn’t even know about friendship day and here in Oz it’s nearly all over. Still, I treasure them in my heart every single day. Take care.

Hi Evelyn. Happy Friendship Day to you too! Sounds like you have a wonderful day planned. If those birthday plans you mentioned are your own you’d better admit it! :-)

Dear Dr James, for a while, I wonder if you’ve completely disappeared from the web. It’s nice to know that you are well.

I am blessed to have you as a friend. It is your warm show of support and encouragement in the early days of this site, that made me realise that this is where I want to be and grow.

I will be here. My thoughts are with you. Do look me up if you need a helping hand or just a listening ear.

In love, light and truth,
Evelyn

My Dearest Friend, Evelyn,

You care so much for your friends and loved ones and it is certainly very heartwarming indeed to know a thoughtful friend like you.

There is one person you have forgotten to send well-wishes to. And, at this moment, on behalf of all, I wish blessings to the closest friend you have in this life – Yourself. Without who you truly are, your passion for what you love, your generosity in sharing, there will not be this blog and this post.

Evelyn, you are a gem! May you be well and happy always!

With mega metta
Bita

Hi Bita,

I’m surprised that you wrote in a comment for I know you to be one busy woman. You give others so much in time, love and support; I have lots to learn from you. I may not have known you very long but I’m so inspired by the person you are.

Thanks so much for your warm friendship and pointing out that I should also appreciate myself.

Do take care! Let’s meet up soon, ok?

Evelyn

Dear,Friend
The National Friendship Day is celebrated every year on the first Sunday in

August. There is not much history that can be garnered for this day except the

fact that the US Congress proclaimed this day as the Friendship Day in the

year 1935.Human beings are social creatures and have always valued the

importance of friends in their lives.
