Since deciding not to go back to my previous vocation as a banker about a year ago – as shared in my last post – I have embarked on a path of self-discovery and building the business of my dreams. Through various personal struggles, I’ve come to understand the importance of aligning what I am doing with my Higher Self. If anything, it is not enough to choose what business to do based on some whimsical interest alone. Nor is it about choosing the business that can generate the most money or the one with the highest profit margin.
Sidenote: If you want to know more about the beginnings of my site and business, please hop over to an interview article over at Myrko’s site that I just did. In the article, I also shared about my role model, my mother-in-law, who had inspired me in more ways that I had ever known. It is also purely coincidental that Myrko approached me for an interview during this period; for today happens to be the third anniversary of her death.
Choosing the right business to do starts with self-discovery. In this area, I have benefited much from the intensive healing work that I put myself through. Books can only tell me so much; but it was from experiential learning that I got the most insights from. I follow where my instincts lead me each day. I allocate time to walking on a spiritual path; for without, I cannot point others in taking the necessary steps towards aligning with their Higher Selves in whatever they do.
In actualizing my dream business, I have also continued to further my skills, knowledge or requirements that will help me become a more effective coach, friend, entrepreneur and blogger. I have been connecting with my desire to help others; people who are going through difficult times, people with relationship issues and people who are unsure about their life purpose. Best of all, blogging has also allowed me to explore my creativity – the food for my soul – through writing, image designing, photography and making my own videos!
What Is The Business of Your Dreams
What about you? Do you have a dream to build your own business? Do you yearn for the flexibility and freedom of working as and when you want to? (I have to confess that there are days I’ve woken up at a time when most people are already in the office….er…like this morning for instance…*embarrassed grin*! I also take the day off – with no qualms at all – if my kids fall ill all of a sudden and need some attention. I zip in and out of my home, if I’ve got errands to run or if I need to meet up with friends in need of some consulting advice, during the day. I can do all these, because I’m in full control of my time!)
Well, if you feel called to starting a business on your own, you are just in time for Tom Volkar’s Business Of Your Dreams Program. On the other hand, if you already have an idea of what dream business you would like to build, do share in the comments below. Evelyn I’m grateful to you for writing about my mission. I strongly believe that there is an ideal business within us all that we were meant to build. There are far too many talented individuals slaving away in jobs that just don’t bring them alive. Thank you for doing your part to offer them a way to independence.
As you know, independence begins first in our hearts and minds. It was very inspiring to read about your mother-in law Myrko’s interview. Talk about intention and courage, hers must have been remarkable.

Evelyn, it is an interesting coincidence, that it is the third anniversary of the death of your mother-in-law. I enjoeyd the interview, thanks again for taking part

Evelyn,
I’m so glad that you have decided to follow your heart. We will all benefit from your decision to stay on this path. My dream business is what I write as my Intention Lesson every single day:
“I work from home and make a lot of money doing what I love.”
As I write this repeatedly each morning I visualize myself dropping my daughter off at school (something I don’t get to do now) and then heading home to sit before my computer and write. Later I broadcast a daily online radio show that has been my dream since my college DJ days and then I see myself picking Gracie up from school. I will be the one to give her an after school snack and hear about her day. Then I will do some more work while she plays.
Even as I write this I am filled with longing and desire for this dream to come true and each day I work towards it becoming reality. Being able to be home for Gracie when she needs me, while helping people all over the world find happiness and being financially secure is totally my dream business model!

Evelyn, thank you for sharing where you are at today, and how you arrived there. And, great interview too! It’s so nice to know you a little better!

I started blogging to allow my heart to open up. A strong narcissist had been in my life, and I needed to find my voice and appreciate my own thoughts again. As I wrote more, I realized no 9-5 job would never allow this kind of freedom. I’m still exploring all this in relation to money, and I’m trying to flow instead of force an online income.

Evelyn, enjoyed your interview very much. It’s great to know a bit more about you.

It takes courage to leave what seems safe to follow illusive dreams, but dreams are the very thing this reality is made of! Thanks for the resources you consistently bring to our attention. Your mom still affects lives, look at your readers today.

Tom, you are most welcome.
Perhaps, previous personal struggles have made it easier for me to appreciate the value in what you are doing. I’ve also just came back from an Enneagram workshop this evening, during which I learned how integration to our spiritual wholeness can bring about massive changes in ourselves and ultimately in helping us achieve excellence in the work arena.
And since your mission is in helping your students build authentic businesses, something which I believe strongly about, I will definitely support it!
All the best,
Evelyn

Hey Evelyn,
I’m in the midst of sorting out my identity before I decide what’s my dream business … right now, sleep is the only thing that pops up, LOL!
Reading your interview on Myrko’s site was heart-warming. I’m reminded of the dinners we had … there’s always so much food and chatter. So call me after the kids are done with their exams OK? And perhaps next time we should go somewhere else other than Cafe Cartel.

Writing would be a dream business. I’m on my way.

@Myrko, thanks for approaching me for an interview. It was a wonderful opportunity to share more about my site and what I am doing.
@Melissa, I really hope your dream business comes true! I’m somehow attracting more and more people who are living proof that what you’ve described is all possible.
@Lance, you are most welcome! I also wish you all the best in what you intend to do in terms of work!
@spaceagesage, I’ve been enjoying my freedom so much that I’m also thinking that I can no longer fit into a 9-5 desk job. I’d feel suffocated!
I’m glad that you are finding your voice in blogging. While we do not want to stifle our creativity and authenticity, I believe that there can be some benefit to incorporating some basic marketing strategies to bringing in a decent income.
@Avani, thanks for reading the interview. All the best to your dreams too!
@Harmony, thanks for the lovely comment you said about my mother-in-law. She was a prolific writer, reader, linguist and conversationalist. At the age of 70+, she was still attending workshops; she never stopped learning. She’d have made a great blogger!
Much of the resources and recommendations on this site were introduced by her really: EFT, meditation, Silva, energy healing, yoga, chakra balancing, past life healing, etc. I’m so glad for taking the time to have all the afternoon teas with her; getting her to answer question after question.
My mother-in-law also espoused loving kindness, authenticity, simplicity and courage. It’ll most definitely be nice to think that a little spirit of hers still lives in all who have come to know her.

@Vered, you’re so sweet! Thanks for being so supportive! All the best to your online business!
@Irene, I was just thinking about you today. I’m sure that you’d be pretty much headed to building something that will be totally aligned to your Higher Self.
Yes yes yes…I’m longing to meet up. With or without kids, let’s have a ball! I don’t really care about the venue as I know that we are going to have a great time anyway. My schedule for the next 3 months is also starting to fill up..it’ll be nice to end the year with a Bang!
@WriterDad, I guess as much. All the best to you!

Hi Evelyn. My dream business is awakening, and awakening me further in the process, and so on, and so on. It’s a wheel of discovery that keeps turning.
Creative writing is feeding my soul now but as of yet, not putting $$$ in my wallet to feed my tummy. But trust that I will be taken care of. I’m also, like you, exploring my own journey and practicing, with the goal of sharing this experience and helping others through life coaching.

Hi Evelyn!
Thank you for stopping by Evolving Beings – I enjoyed your insight.
And I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this post of yours as I have recently made some “serious” choices in my own life. I love writing and I love connecting with people, but more importantly contributing my talents and passions to others. However having a “job” my time is limited and I also have to keep a certain level of annonymity due to my job. This is obviously no way to live out one’s highest potential. I want to be free to express how I feel and have unlimited time and so I am at the same point in my life, roughly speaking where you were. I have decided to walk away from my job in June (yes I still have some time to put in) and pursue writing in the form of blogging and books on a full time level.
That is the business of my dreams
I am not concerned about the money, as I know the Universe will provide me with what I need, and need is the key word.
So I really enjoyed reading your story and am blissful about my own transition into living life more freely and more passionately than I already do
[Reply]
@Davina, I really like the idea of having like minded friends on the same journey. I wish you early success!
@Evita, now I begin to understand why you do not have a photo up on yours. I’m glad that you’ve made the decision to pursue your authentic Self! We do have many similar interests. Let’s connect more as friends, shall we?

My dream business involves helping people balance the demands of being everything to everyone else without them losing their sense of self, their needs, and their passions in the process.

Hi Evelyn, this is a good, solid post. I especially like the image at the beginning. It’s a nice touch.
I like that you express your self soul spirit in a blog with a steadfast purpose and a supportive audience. It’s clear you’ve earned a place where you can explore more deeply and broadly your values and interests. I find you to be an excellent role model for spiritual bloggers.
I look forward to your continued success.
Christopher

@Stacey, ahh…I can see why you named your site “create a balance”. An excellent mission indeed! I wish you all the best!
@Christopher, I thought I took my picture too close to the flower. Well, I’ve got to brush up on my photography skills. Still, I like the composition of the picture. A monk told me to always have at least a single stalk of fresh flower next to my PC or laptop. It is a simple gesture that is meant to be healing and nurturing for me.
Thanks for your well wishes. I’m humbly a student as much as everyone else. I definitely do not see myself as a role model but a friend who is pointing out the direction for others to take, should they find themselves lost, confused or in need of some assistance.
Still, I thank you graciously for your warm support and kind words!

Evelyn,
A truly insightful post, and an interview that was AWESOME to read – thanks for the two-fer. it reminds me of the “old days” of double features in the movies – each as enjoyable as the other!
I hope to become as “self-aware” as you are by reading your posts. Illness has taken away too much of my OWN self-control. Thank you for sharing your stories, advice and hopefulness!
Best,
Rita

Hi Evelyn: I went over to read your excellent interview and left a comment there

Rita, thanks for enjoying my articles.
Any form of awakening cannot begin until you take care of your body. It is always body first, and then mind and spirit follows. You’d be giving yourself a hard time mentally if you are suffering physically. Why make it harder than what it already is to most people? Even the Buddha or other spiritual gurus will give the same advice.
So take care of yourself first, ok?
Hugs,
Evelyn

My dream business focuses on customers who seek to do things differently. Being different is a mindset. Great post and it is inspiring to see so many people who like to see and do things differently.

Hi Evelyn – I just read the interview. I like how you shared a little more of yourself, but most of all, the story of your mother-in-law was very moving. She sounded like a wonderful person.

Off to Myrko’s site next to read your interview, but I am really excited for you and this journey of self discovery you are on. I think my dream business involves being a novelist and travel writer, public speaker and writing mentor, but I have no idea which route to focus on first to make this happen.
My creative writing always competes with my desire to make money doing something fulfilling so I can keep traveling. I am lucky in that my husband is the primary earner and I am able to have a very hands on role with my son, which is very important to me. But I need my own creative fulfillment, space and projects too. I can’t just be a mom.
I think I hoped when I started blogging that I would come across a money making activity that “fit” me and was enjoyable so I wouldn’t have to resort to marketing and copy writing when I wanted to put some bucks in the savings pot. But so far, I have just been overwhelmed with ideas and unsure where to turn. Maybe I do need Tom’s help.

@Jordan, how nice! What a business yours will be! A business with people who choose to be unique and with a mind of their own. I like this idea very much!
@Barbara, thanks for reading the interview. Yes…she was wonderful. She was incredibly wise.
@Kelly, it’s so interesting to learn that you want to be a “novelist and travel writer, public speaker and writing mentor”. I like the fact that you have got so many dreams and want to achieve so much. It shows your zest for life!
I know exactly how it feels like not just wanting to being a mom. I know I’ll absolutely not survive if I do not have a chance to explore my creative pursuits. It will be close to dying!
I’d think Tom will be a great help if you are intending to build an authentic business. I don’t say it because I am friends with Tom. I am of the opinion that only when you are building something that is true to who you are, can you expect to have a great business. Money considerations really ought to be secondary, since you have a husband who can help pay the bills. Use the opportunity that you have to pursue your true heart’s desire!
[Reply]
Hi Evelyn – congratulations. Tom’s course sounds great and it sounds like you’ve really taken the time to discover what you want to do, which is important. I’m looking forward to seeing your business grow.

I’m so excited for you as move closer to your dreams! I’m not sure what my dream business is, but I do know it’s gotta have fluidity and multiple roles for me. And to be honest, that wasn’t something I realized until I read this–thanks!

Hi Evelyn – I have nearly two decades before my “official” retirement age arrives, but I’ve begun work this year in creating websites that will begin supporting retirement LONG before the age of 62. I figure that 10-15 years should be plenty of time for the development and maturation of these sites (ie – attracting lots of traffic, which in turn will equal sales). And then once in place, I can have a fairly passive income to support my wife and I for the rest of our lives.
Regards,
Bob
